Abolish The Electoral College
We need to pass an amendment to directly elect presidents.
Hi! I’m Neil. This is my first post in 4+ months, so I thought I’d reintroduce myself. I’m the founder of Labdoor and Utopic. I’m also writing a book in public titled The World’s Biggest Problems.
Here’s the latest chapter of my book!
Abolish The Electoral College
We Need To Directly Elect Presidents
Summary:
Idea: A constitutional amendment to directly elect presidents by popular vote.
Problem: The Electoral College has been corrupted by the two-party system.
That’s why most elections are a choice between two unpopular candidates.
Trend: We’re about to have the least popular presidential election ever.
History: We’ve been close to abolishing the Electoral College but never got it done.
Solution: Create a nationwide campaign to pass a popular vote amendment.
2025 is the perfect timing to focus on passing this amendment nationwide.
This is my second-longest essay ever, at 2,044 words.
I felt like I really needed to address all the potential counters and alternatives since this is such a controversial topic.
Really proud of this post! Check it out here:

P.S. - Why I Write:
Most people write about their past. I prefer to write about our ideal future.
Ideas like abolishing the Electoral College can seem impossible at first, but all it would take is at least one person in each state taking up this cause for a couple years.
Most of the World’s Biggest Problems are actually coordination problems.
If we solve even one of these problems in my lifetime, all this writing will be worth it.
I’ve now written 100+ posts, including eight this year. Here are my latest posts:
